Turbo Surgeon Needed

A question from Dr. Van Geranoitis:

“I wanted to post a question about Porsche repair shops on the Cape that I was asked about recently to see if any members have any experience with these shops.

The first is World Tech Auto in Hyannis and the second is Falmouth Sports Imports in North Falmouth.

I have an uncle with a 930 that needs a new turbo and is looking for a local shop to do the work if possible.

I appreciate your help.”

I have no info on World Tech Auto. I do know people on upper Cape used Sports Imports and seem pleased with the work. But input is somewhat dated. Others please Update

Don’t know those shops but I would suggest you go off cape and go to South Shore Autoworks. Worth the little extra drive.

I sent my Porsche off Cape to European Performance Engineering, Inc. – Bosch Car Service in Natick. Gerry the owner is amazing and was highly recommended by a friend of mine in the auto biz. No regrets and his work is solid.

I have been servicing my 2010 Cayenne Transsyberia at Sports Imports for 2 years now, and they absolutely know Porsche’s (and other classic brands). They pointed out preventative maintenance based on experience with the car engine and transmission. True mechanics and nice crew, starting with Scott the owner (and former race driver).

I’ve got a 997 Turbo S and Scott from Sports Imports is my neighbor. He and his staff know Porsche’s (both older and newer models) and I never hesitate to have them service my auto.

I know sports imports has worked on turbos. A friend had a 964 turbo that they worked on. He sold it about a year ago. I can put you in touch with him if you want.

SSA in Kingston also does good work.

I know it’s off Cape but Randolph Racing in Stoughton is another source.   Kevin can be reached at 781-344-1029.

I am new to the Porsche community, 2 years since I purchased my 1999 911. I did some research for a repair/maintenance shop. I was impressed with Yanis at 91 Falmouth Road in Hyannis (just west of the rotary on the south side. It was a bit difficult to see his sign and there are only 2 bays, but he is very knowledgeable and eager to help. He had no problem in diagnosing and making repairs for a check engine light that I was told had been on for some three years before I bout the Porsche. He has also made repairs to the leaking engine gaskets, seat belt fault light, exhaust system and convertible top drive assembly. He believes in using only OEM parts, if they are available either locally or overseas. Give him a call at 508-775-3115

Had a bad experience with World Tech, would not recommend. However, I do echo the positive comments on South Shore Autoworks — as someone pointed out, it’s a bit of a hike to Kingston, but they they really know Porsches. Plus, they have loaners, which is somewhat rare for independent shops.

EPE in Natick is great. But that said a turbo replacement on the 930 can be done in a garage with simple tools. It just bolts to the exhaust, clamped to the intercooler downpipe and has oil lines for lubrication. Then send the original KKK turbo for a rebuilt if you want to keep it concourse or bolt on replacement for better performance. Since you asked for a shop recommendation and want to keep it local really any reputable shop can do the replacement. I have pictures of mine I’m happy to send him so he can see what the job looks like
