Last fall at one of our meetings at 3 Fins, a couple of members told me that I was paying too much for insurance. I have a 1988 911 Cabriolet with 101,000 miles and my renewal just came up for $1,400, not stated value. I asked Hagerty for a quote with $50,000 stated value and they came back with $1,000 per year. Thoughts, anyone?

I have Hagerty on my 2007 997 4S Coupe, also $50K valuation, $1,113 annual premium. Can’t comment on claims process because I’ve never filed one, but they have been great to deal with when I contacted them on other stuff. Been with them for several years (on other Porsches, have had this one about two years). And BTW, their Drivers Club mag is great!

As a retired insurance underwriter, a range of 800 to 1200 looks like a reasonable price for that level of coverage. I assume that from Hagerty you are getting full replacement coverage for an agreed value. Some insurers would total the car and give you less which is why I insure my 77 with Hagerty and my newer cars elsewhere. You can also get lower pricing by putting all your cars with one insurer but may not be able to get full replacement. Hope this helps.

@SteveShakin @Jeff Saul I did talk to Grundy and Leland-West (didn’t try Amica) but their restrictions didn’t work for me — seemed like they catered more to people who use their cars occasionally (and for car events, etc.). Would be interested in your experience — always open to new info!

Paul, still sounds high I would expect around $500 unless you are listing it as an every day driver commuting to work with a low deductible……? is what does your driving record look like, a couple of tickets can make a big difference. Hagerty is usually pretty reasonable.

Hagerty has become very expensive for Porsches. I switched to American Collector Insurance and saved significantly.

Don’t want to belabor the point, but finally managed to get a definitive answer from Grundy on coverage. They specify that the car must be kept in an enclosed, private structure at all times, unless it’s at a car event — and a secure public garage doesn’t qualify. In other words, if you decided to take an overnight trip that wasn’t directly related to a car event — say a weekend pleasure trip — the car wouldn’t be covered. I don’t use my 997 as a daily driver, but do take the occasional road trip, so that doesn’t work for me, but if you can stay within the conditions of the policy, seems like a pretty good option.
