Anyone with a 356 Cabriolet that can help solve a mystery? (Mystery solved see below)

Hi Gruppe Friends:

Hi fellow 356 owners:

After an extensive restoration, I am almost ready to install a new upholstery kit. But while I was installing insulation and preparing for the next step, I was puzzled by an L channel at the top of the firewall (facing the cabin). It’s roughly 3/4 inch vertical and horizontal.

If anyone in the club has a finished 356 Cabriolet, I’d appreciate them taking a look at that area and letting me know what the upholstery looks like back there. I’ve attached a photo that shows the area described.

I can be reached at 508 332-6974 or email. Stoddard said it’s not an area for a seal unless you have a hard top (mine is soft).

regards,

Ralph

Solved: Thanks so much for posting this. Between two very helpful calls Roland’s book and finally locating my old upholstery, I learned that there is an 8 gauge wire that forms a roll— which fits into the channel.

regards

Ralph
